Our Vision: A Home For Chosen Family
A “Family Friend” is someone you’d trust with the key to your house, who would never pass judgment for the laundry pile on your couch.
We are working towards a real-life space where you can build parenting community and forge relationships to help find chosen family. Here, you never have to explain your family structure, you just show up as you are and you belong.
Right now, Family Friend is a village on the move, but we are actively working toward a permanent nesting place. The Clubhouse won’t just be a brick and mortar community space; it will be Portland’s first dedicated space designed specifically for the intersection of queer identity and caregiving.
We’re creating a space that is:
Part Cozy Family Lounge: A place where you can connect with likeminded families while your kids play in a safe, affirming environment.
Part Imaginative Play Area: tactile, crafty, and open ended play designed by experienced caregivers + crafters
Part Resource Nest: A physical home for our practitioner network, mutual aid shelf, and neighborhood solidarity projects.
Why it Matters Most family spaces aren't built for us. Our community is often excluded from heteronormative culture, and can feel othered in public spaces. The Clubhouse will be a place where you don't have to translate your life, and where collective care is centered and valued.
